David Scott-Coombes is a consultant in Endocrine Surgery at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. All aspects of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery are undertaken in a multidisciplinary setting including thyroid cancer surgery, laparoscopic adrenal surgery, and focused parathyroid surgery using intra-operative PTH assay. About 220 endocrine operations are undertaken each year.
David Scott-Coombes graduated from Westminster Medical School, London. He received his training in endocrine surgery at Hammersmith Hospital, London. Between 1996 and 2002 he was appointed as Consultant in Endocrine Surgery at King’s College Hospital, London. He moved to Cardiff in 2002. He has published papers on many aspects of endocrine surgery and written chapters on endocrine surgery in leading medical textbooks. He is currently the past president of the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS) and was previously director of audit (2005-2009). He is Past-President of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons and is past-Chairman of the Board of Examiners for the European Board of Surgery Qualification (Endocrine). He has held a number of senior management positions in the Cardiff and Vale Healthboard and is currently Assistant Medical Director for Clinical Standards and Service Innovation
